In the small courtyard
Mother has placed
Two saplings of basil

Father has grown
A sprawling banyan.

Where can I plant
My tiny rose!

Question in hand
I run from forest to forest
Mountain to mountain
Desert to desert ...
Useless.

छोटे-से आँगन में
माँ ने लगाए हैं
तुलसी के बिरवे दो

पिता ने उगाया है
बरगद छतनार।

मैं अपना नन्हा गुलाब
कहाँ रोप दूँ!

मुट्ठी में प्रश्न लिए
दौड़ रहा हूँ बन-बन,
पर्वत-पर्वत,
रेती-रेती ...
बेकार।
